Candy, it is a conundrum. Machine smocking stops the movement of the pleats as opposed to hand smocking which allows movement after the stitching. I prefer the hand stitched look therefore do not do machine embroidery on pleats. I am sure someone else who likes to do that sort of work will be able to help you out.

I am machine smocking and wonder how to make the pleats the right distance apart to fit around the shoulders.
